BBBEE Workshop For Businesses In New Germany

The eThekwini Municipality in partnership with the Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry and supported by Trade and Investment KwaZulu-Natal launched the Business Retention and Expansion (BR&E) programme in New Germany on the 9 June 2016. Firms in the area were surveyed and a Task Team was formed. One of the recommendations emanating from the Task Team was the hosting of a BBBEE Workshop to inform businesses in the New Germany area about Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment. eThekwini Municipality’s Project Manager Sibusiso Makhathini welcomed business representatives to the BBBEE Workshop on Tuesday, 22 November at the Premier Hotel in Pinetown.

AQRate’s Chief Operating Officer, Brigitte Brun presented on Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment, explaining that numerous sector codes had recently been updated. New thresholds were now in place. Industry sector codes could apply to companies and it was vital that companies be measured under the correct code. AQRate offer verification services and through their 51% Black Woman-Owned company called Africandi, they have created South Africa’s first B-BBEE Calculator App for all Smart phones, tablets and computers to assist businesses to establish their B-BBBEE score.
